Privacy

Privacy, in plain words.

We collect as little as we can. Last updated .

Just reading or watching

This site sets no cookies and runs no advertising trackers. Like every web server, ours keeps a standard access log (IP address, page, time, browser) for security and troubleshooting. The log is a small rolling file: once it is full, the oldest lines are overwritten automatically, and it is also cleared whenever the server is rebuilt. We do not copy, archive or analyse it, and we look at it only to fix problems or stop abuse.

How we see what works

We use Microsoft Clarity to learn how the site is used: where people click and scroll, and replays of visits with anything typed into a form hidden. It helps us fix pages that confuse people. On this site Clarity runs without cookies, so it cannot link one visit to the next. It is switched off on the email confirmation pages and on draft pages, and it does not run at all if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. Microsoft handles this data under its own privacy statement.

Videos are hosted by YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the player comes from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain, and YouTube's own policy applies to it.

The weekly email

If you sign up, we keep your email address, the date you confirmed, and the wording you agreed to. You are only added after you press the confirm link we email you. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away: your address is deleted from the list. We keep only a scrambled fingerprint of it, so we never email it again by mistake.

The contact form

Your name, email address and message are emailed to us so we can reply. We do not add you to any list because you wrote to us.

Stopping spam and abuse

Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots; Cloudflare receives technical details about your browser to do that. We also count how many times a form is used from one connection or one email address. Those counters hold scrambled fingerprints, not readable addresses, and are deleted after seven days.

Who else handles the data

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with anyone else.

Ads

Ads on this site are for our own products and are labelled. They do not track you. If that ever changes, this page will change first.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello [at] startstupidsmall.com and we will answer.
